Tuesdays racing from the Australian state of Victoria takes us to the city of Ballarat for an 8 race card. The first half of the card consists of maiden races and each of them look tricky from a punting perspective.
Aussie Preview
Race 5 Selection - Maximak
Race 5 over 1400 metres is where today’s first selection comes from. Igniting is likely to go off favourite here on the back of 2 good runs at Caulfield and Sandown.
However at the predicted prices I am going to go for the Matt laurie trained Maximak as an each way selection. It is rare for horses in Australia to win first time up after extended periods away from the racetrack.
They are generally brought along slowly after a break and can take 1 or 2 runs to fully hit top gear. It was therefore very pleasing to see Maximak run such an encouraging race last time up at Pakenham after an 18 week break.
She was a fast finishing fourth over 1200 metres and the step back up to 1400(7 furlongs) here should be perfect. Her current fixed odds price is $6.00 for a win and $2.20 for a place on Bet365.
Race 6 Selection - Doroza E/W
Todays only other selection is Doroza in race 6.
The Matt Cumani (son of former Epsom Derby winning trainer Luca) trained gelding is looking for a hat trick of wins after impressive successes over course and distance at this track and over 2100 metres at Echuca.
He looks to be on a roll at the moment and can give weight away to all his rivals in this contest.
His current fixed price of $3.60 with Bet365 looks fair.
His biggest threat might come from recent Pakenham maiden winner Redwood Rising.
