Dewhurst Stakes Runner-By-Runner Guide
Number 1 - Advertise - 8/1
Trainer - Martyn Meade
Jockey - Oisin Murphy
Groups 1’s - 0
Advertise has a couple of Group 2s under his belt with an additional close 2nd to Calyx in the Coventry Stakes. This will be his first step up to Group 1 company but Martyn Meade is confident that he will be “better and stronger than ever”. He has an official rating of 112.
Number 2 - Anthony Van Dyck - 5/1
Trainer - Aidan O’Brien
Jockey - TBC
Groups 1’s - 0
Anthony Van Dyck is one of the more experienced 2 year olds in this field, with a Group 2 and Group 3 to his name. He chased home Quorto at the Curragh last month and will be possibly be one of Aiden O’Briens best chances in this Group 1 event.
Number 3 - Cape of Good Hope - 66/1
Trainer - Aiden O’Brien
Jockey - TBC
Groups 1’s - 0
This Colt was 2nd to Quorto in the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket in July and 3rd to Mohawk in the Royal Lodge Stakes. He has a lot of big racing experience. He tends to race from the front, so may be a pacemaker for his stablemates, but he would need to progress further to see him make the frame.
Number 4 - Christmas - 25/1
Trainer - Aiden O’Brien
Jockey - TBC
Groups 1’s - 0
Christmas chased home Anthony Van Dyck in the Curragh in a Group 2. He was third to Quorto last time out, with Anthony Van Dyck in second. He would need to progress again if he is to compete with the top 2 year olds in this event. He is likely to race quite prominently.
Number 5 - Kuwait Currency - 25/1
Trainer - Richard Hannon
Jockey - TBC
Groups 1’s - 0
Kuwait Currency has progressed extremely well since a very poor debut effort at Newmarket in July. He won a listed event over a mile last time out. The form of that race is beginning to work out quite well recently.
Number 6 - Mohawk - 20/1
Trainer - Aidan O’Brien
Jockey - TBC
Group 1’s - 0
Mohawak won the Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket last time out. He had Sydney Opera House and Cape of Good Hope behind him in 2nd and 3rd. He was beaten by Quorto and Anthony van Dyck earlier in the season so would need to progress again to challenge here.
Number 7 - Sangarius - 3/1
Trainer - Sir Michael Stoute
Jockey - William Buick
Group 1’s - 0
Sangarius won a Listed Event at Doncaster last time out. He quickened up quite impressively under Ryan Moore that day. He is a big, rangy Colt and looks to have a big future. He is currently 3/1 second favourite but has exceeded expectations this year. He could progress again and deserves his chance.
Number 8 - Sydney Opera House - 50/1
Trainer - Aiden O’Brien
Jockey - TBC
Group 1’s - 0
Sydney Opera House has contested two Group 2’s, including a 2nd to Mohawk last time out. He is likely to be a pacemaker for his stablemates.
Number 9 - Ten Sovereigns - 5/1
Trainer - Aidan O’Brien
Jockey - TBC
Group 1’s - 0
Ten Sovereigns completed his hat-trick of wins and continued his unbeaten run in the Middle Park Stakes last time out. He idled in front that day but he was still visually impressive. He should be suited to the extra furlong and could put up a big show.
Number 10 - Too Darn Hot - Evens
Trainer - John Gosden
Jockey - Frankie Dettori
Group 1’s - 0
Too Darn Hot is an even money shot to pick up this Group 1. His showed his best performance thus far last time out in a Group 2. He picked up well off the pace and quickened away when he hit the front. It was a strongly run race over 7 furlongs that day. He hasn’t put a foot wrong as of yet but he would appreciate a strong gallop again here.
Number 11 - Van Beethoven - 100/1
Trainer - Aidan O’Brien
Jockey - TBC
Group 1’s - 0
This son of Scat Daddy is the most experienced in the field. He is also the biggest outsider, finding some of these too good already this year. He would need significant progression to challenge, having found Too Darn Hot exactly that last time out at Doncaster.
Number 12 - Western Australia - 66/1
Trainer - Aidan O’Brien
Jockey - TBC
Group 1’s - 0
Western Australia is another likely prominent runner for Aidan O’Brien with a slim chance. He is likely to lead his stablemates to a steady gallop. He was a length better than Sydney Opera House last time out behind Madhoom.
