The first race of the day is the Class 2 Maiden Stakes over a mile and Latest Generation for the Simon & Ed Crisford Team looks to have a big chance.

The two year old has only been seen once to date and he finished a close third on debut in what looked a competitive maiden at Sandown last month.

That contest on the face of it looks to be a strong maiden and with the colt staying on in the latter stages of the race, the step up to a mile will suit him down to ground.

The bet365 Nursery Handicap over seven furlongs sees another classy field of juveniles head to post and Astaser looks the one to beat.

The colt has two wins and a place from his last three runs including a really impressive win in a solid nursery at York, which just about looks the best form on offer.

He has the most experience in the field running four times overall and if progressing again and taking advantage of the five pound claimer, he is sure to run another big race.

The Listed Scarbrough Stakes is one of the features on day one of the St Leger meeting and with a strong field heading to post it looks set to be one of the best renewals of the race for some time.

Acklam Express for trainer Nigel Tinkler has gone from strength to strength this term finishing third on debut but has since gone on to land a hat-trick of wins.

He has stepped up in company each time and last time out he landed his first victory in Listed company and although going into a tougher field he is highly progressive and does not lack speed or versatility for ground.

A horse at a bigger price for us on Wednesday is the John Ryan trained Catch My Breath in the Class 5 Classified Stakes.

The four year old has been ran frequently this season and showed his best form in July, running three nice races, winning one of those.

Easily excused with a poor run at Wolves last time and the drop back down to a mile should play to his favour, also still being well treated by the handicapper on a mark of 69 makes him attractive at a double figure price.

The feature contest of the afternoon is the Group Three Fillies Stakes over seven furlongs and the Godolphin owned Althiqa makes plenty of appeal.

The highly consistent three year old has three wins and three places so far in her career with two wins and two places coming over this distance.

Two starts ago she was a good third behind One Master at Glorious Goodwood and then again in Group Three company she was a bold second in Deauville finishing ahead of some decent horses.

She warrants big respect at the prices and is sure to run into the frame.

The penultimate race of the day is the 1 mile 2 furlongs Class 2 Handicap and the Hughie Morrison trained Starcat looks one of the more likely winners.

The three year colt is dropping has ran to a decent level so far despite finishing last in the 2000 Guineas and finishing near the back of the field in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Last time out he showed signs of big ability when 5th of 11 in a handicap at Glorious Goodwood and should be there or thereabouts today if coming on again for that run.

Line of Reason goes for us in the final race of the day and although the veteran is now 10 years of age he still holds bundles on ability.

The gelding ran a blinder over course and distance last time out to finish a close fourth but if being ridden differently on Wednesday can go even closer.

He is only 2lb higher for that run which makes him interesting once again and if Doncaster gets no more rain before now and the off, he could be backed in the market loving fast ground.
