Down Royal Preview - 29/01/2019

13:10 - Peacocks Secret

The opening race of seven at Down Royal on Tuesday is the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Rated Novice Chase, where Peacocks Secret will look to justify top weight in a field of six.

Three wins from his last four - yet that defeat came when falling when leading at Clonmel two starts ago. His most recent success was at Punchestown under Barry Browne, with JJ Hanlon now calling upon the services of Rachael Blackmore.

Leading contender on the form guide, and should go close.

13:40 - See Double You

See Double You finished a close second in a big handicap as recently as Sunday, and is out again to quickly put things right in the Bet 5 Get 30 For All New Customers At BetVictor Handicap Chase.

Second to the Gordon Elliott-trained Kayf Thou at Fairyhouse, this Ronan McNally gelding makes the journey above the border almost ten years ago to the day that he made his debut over fences.

Aged sixteen, he is such a credit to his owners as well as the sport, and deserves to win his eighth race on what will be his fifty-eighth start when lining up in Northern Ireland.

Drops in trip and will look to make another late challenge, bidding to prove age is just a number.

14:15 - Carlitos Bay

Carlitos Bay went close at Punchestown two weeks ago, and can seek a first win in eighteen months in the Lengthen The Odds With BetVictor Handicap Chase.

This 8yo is yet to win over fences but has produced plenty of decent efforts, however his career has been blotted with wretched luck.

In his last seven outings, he has uncompleted more times than he has passed the post at the finish, but as suggested, a return to form was signalled in a Beginners Chase behind Tom Gibney's Young Paddymc, and perhaps things may start to go his way.

Claims.

14:50 - Black Tears

Black Tears looks likely to come on from her reappearance at Punchestown two weeks ago, and surely looks the one to beat for leading trainer Gordon Elliott.

Beaten a short-head on her first start since April last year by a decent Mullins mare, she was pretty solid in bumpers in her past and looks the type on paper to improve.

Comes up against the boys for the first time in the Get A Run For Your Money With BetVictor Maiden Hurdle and is the top name in the field.

15:25 - Presented Well

Presented Well certainly showcased his ability in a maiden here on Boxing Day, and should be amongst the finish in the Cash Out Now Available On Horse Racing Multiples At BetVictor Rated Novice Hurdle.

He travelled so well when falling on just his second start over timber back at the start of December before putting it right three weeks later, and can now really start to build on his profile.

Hugh Morgan takes off a useful 7lb, and on that evidence, should surely see him hold an advantage over his rivals.

Good chance in a competitive field.

15:55 - Dawn Hoofer

Dawn Hoofer has yet to finish any better than third over hurdles since joining Paul Nolan, and will hope to go not one, but two better in the Best Odds Guaranteed On Irish Racing At BetVictor Mares Handicap Hurdle.

In fact, all three of her efforts has seen her place third in Juvenile contests, so has always been in the frame but has just fallen short.

Time to put it right, with Brian Cooper on board also looking for his first visit to the winners enclosure in over two weeks.

16:25 - Andy Dufresne

The final race is the Make Your Best Bet With BetVictor's Betfinder Flat Race, and with plenty of these unknown, we will pick the ability-assured Andy Dufresne.

Just the one start for Gordon Elliott where he landed a 4yo maiden ten months ago, and has been waited with at home since.

Highly thought of and carries a tall reputation, having been snapped up for big money by JP McManus.

Should be hard to beat.
