Goodwood Sunday Preview - 29/08/21

This is a tricky 6f handicap but we are willing to have a stab at the outsider of the field in First Edition.

This quirky sort hasn’t really fired yet this season but this two year old form is up there with the best on offer in this field and his sole run over 6f came in the Group 2 Mill Reef.

The headgear clearly hasn’t worked the last twice therefore connections have left it off this time and Hector Crouch is the only jockey to have won aboard him.

There are a few nicely-bred newcomers here and our selection is certainly vulnerable to an above average one but on the form shows Firth Of Clyde is the one to beat and William Buick will put his experience to good use around this sort of track.

In the Listed event we have two each-way selections despite the seven runners.

Firstly, Richard Fahey’s Toro Strike looks capable of running a big race despite having to give away 3lb to the rest of the field.

This son of Toronado produced a huge performance to make up ground of Motakhayyel earlier in the season and his two runs since have come on unsuitable conditions.

Returned to a quicker surface with Ryan Moore booked he should go close.

Another at an each-way price is Andrew Balding’s tactical.

Also by Toronado, this colt looks overpriced based on his form in stronger races and he can make use of the handy weight-for-age allowance.

First time blinkers, Oisin Murphy rides.

Ryan Moore has another brilliant chance in the 16:35 aboard favourite Just Fine but at a bigger price we are chancing Highland Rocker, who finished fourth in what has turned out to be a red hot bet365 handicap (heritage).

This son of Gleneagles has been freshened up since and if running to that level of form will surely prove better than his handicap rating.

The final race sees five unexposed staying handicappers go to battle.

This is not a race for maximum faith however Sir Michael Stoute’s Maytal is worth a chance at the prices having been collared late when well backed at Salisbury last time out.

Richard Kingscote tried to make all that day and he would have been successful had this filly not wandered inside the final furlong. Ryan Moore now takes over and he may be able to eek out further improvement.
