THE BET365 NOVICES’ CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL (1.50 Sandown) - Steel Ally
Looks a big price for Sam Thomas in this contest having some smart form in the books over hurdles in his novice campaign.
Steel Ally wasn’t as effective on deep ground on his first two outings of the season over timber but has looked much more comfortable on quicker ground recently, winning a class 3 novice event before going close behind a well handicapped rival who’s won since.
THE CARLING KING RICHARD III CUP (2.05 Leicester) - Thunder Roar
A reliable 5 year old who won a brace of races towards the end of last season.
Placed on both of his comeback runs over 7 furlongs and a mile, he was only narrowly denied when last seen on soft ground at Doncaster. He might have gotten away lightly with only a 3lbs hike in the weights for that placed effort.
THE BET365 OAKSEY CHASE (2.25 Sandown) - Hitman
This doesn’t look the deepest renewal of this contest and although Hitman has been frustrating to follow recently he looks to have a touch of class over this field if running to his best.
Disappointing in the Ryanair, he did run well in that race last year and put in his best effort of the season to be 2nd to Shishkin in the Denman Chase.
THE TRUSTATRADER.COM HANDICAP STAKES (2.45 Haydock) - Roach Power
Right at home on deep ground, Roach Power makes plenty of appeal for this contest getting his ideal slow underfoot conditions again.
A winner twice at the end of last season on heavy ground, he returned to racing in March for this season but struggled over 6 furlongs on his seasonal comeback and failed to have any telling impression on the race. However, that should have set him up nicely for this event and he now goes back up to 7 furlongs and returns to a venue he’s won at.
THE BET365 CELEBRATION CHASE (3.00 Sandown) - Jonbon
Although El Fabiolo heads the market, he proved he was beatable at Cheltenham when fumbling badly and being pulled up. Sandown provides a real test of jumping and the Railway Fences might just expose his jumping.
Jonbon is tried and tested at this venue, winning this race last year and winning the Tingle Creek earlier this season.
THE BET365 GOLD CUP (3.35 Sandown) - Minella Cocooner
A good staying chaser for Willie Mullins Minella Cocooner ran a creditable 3rd in the Irish Grand National when last seen at the start of the month.
Not beaten too far in that event, he doesn’t look badly treated for this race and has proven that he gets the trip.
