ITV Saturday Preview - 10/08/19

13:05 Ascot - The Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Dash (Handicap)

The first runner of the day for us at Ascot is the Michael Appleby trained Caspian Prince who looks to have a great chance in the opener off a lowly mark.

The sprint contest sees a competitive field go to post and this 10 year old has got more experience than most of these horses with him starting his career back in 2011.

The reason this horse is attractive in this one is because he is now nine pounds lower than the last time he ran in a handicap meaning he has great potential to go close here.

13:40 Ascot - The Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Strayers (Handicap) 1

Time To Study is our selection in the Shergar Cup Stayers Handicap over 2 miles looks to have big each way claims and if improving for his recent runs will be hugely in the frame.

The Ian Williams trained five year old has not been at his best on his last two runs with quick ground and the all weather surface not suiting his running style.

He is now three pounds lower than his third at Royal Ascot in the Ascot Stakes over slightly further but with potentially a bit of ease in the ground he has to be in the mix off a nice weight.

13:55 Haydock - The Vulcan Village Handicap Stakes (London Mile Series Qualifier)

NO BET ADVISED

14:15 Ascot - The Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Challenge (Handicap)

One of the best of the day from the Shergar Cup meeting is Mandarin in the Challenge Handicap with this horse being highly progressive and very unexposed at this race distance.

We are looking for a quick-fire double from Ian Williams and the way he has ran in his last four outing suggests he would have to run a stinker not to go close.

He has two seconds and two wins in his last four with this contest seeing him seeking a hat-trick. He was stepped up to 1 mile 4f last time out and revelled in at Newmarket and if the rain comes he should be able to handle it.

14:30 Haydock - The British Stallion Studs Ebf Dick Hern Stakes (Listed Race)

The Dick Hern Listed Stakes over a mile looks a good contest for the fillies and William Haggas' Miss O'Connor looks tough to beat.

The four year old has only raced twice in her career winning both in good style and although taking a big jump in grade looks a hot recruit for the yard.

His latest run was his first for Haggas where he bolted up by 12 lengths and looked a class above that field and is an exciting entry here.

14:50 Ascot - The Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Mile (Handicap)

The Shergar Cup Mile is one of the most competitive contests of the day with many horses proven at Class 2 level and we have gone with the in form Nicholas T.

This seven year old is very hot and cold with his runs but seems to have found his form recently not finishing outside the top two on his last five runs.

In those runs he has won three of them, especially well in his last two winning some good handicap contests and is sure to go well in his hat-trick bid with any rain falling a positive.

15:05 Haydock - The Rose of Lancaster Stakes (Group 3)Newmarket

The feature race of the day is the is the Group 3 Rose Of Lancaster Stakes and with the rain coming we have sided with William Haggas trained Addeybb.

This five year old is a very frustrating horse to follow but last time out gave a good performance and if the rain comes on Saturday should be in the mix.

He landed the Wolferton Stakes at Royal Ascot two starts back and finished a good second in the Group 2 York Stakes last time out which makes him a player off that form.

As said, rain is a big factor for this horse and if he gets it he will be hard to overlook.

15:45 Newmarket The German-Thoroughbred.com Sweet Solera Stakes (Group 3)

The only race from Newmarket on the ITV broadcast is the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes over seven furlongs and we have gone with the Charlie Appleby trained Light Blush.

This two year old filly won over course and distance on debut and then finished a touched off second in a Listed contest at Sandown last time out.

She should come on for that run and this contest does not look he strongest Group 3 in the world so she should take advantage of that with William Buick back in the saddle.

15:25 The Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Classic (Handicap)

The penultimate race of the day is the is the Shergar Cup Classic Handicap over 1 mile 4 furlongs and the William Haggas trained Sapa Inca looks like a big talent.

The three year old filly has been very consistent for most of her career not finishing outside the top three on her last seven runs and looks set for a bold run here.

This youngster is very versatile on lots of different grounds running to a high standard on soft and good ground and she needs to start converting these places in to wins and this looks a perfect opportunity.

16:00 The Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Sprint (Handicap)Haydock Park

The final race of the day is the Shergar Cup Sprint and in this handicap over six furlongs we have gone for the favourite Victory Day.

This William Haggas trained runner is very lightly raced compared to the field and this season has ran to a good standard making him interesting here.

He won on his seasonal debut at Ripon in a Class 5 and then stepped up to a Class 2 at York in a 22 runner field and finished a strong second which sets the standard here.
