Santini

Santini Horse

Born to sire Milan and dam Tinagoodnight, Santini is yet another success story from horse trainer Nicky Henderson. Santini was originally trained by Polly Gundry before being changed to Nicky Henderson in 2016, then to Ed Walker at the start of 2017, and back to Nicky Henderson towards the end of 2017. Within this period, Santini won the Maiden Conditions 4, 5, 6 & 7-year-old at Didmarton with a starting price of 3/1, where Nicky Henderson was able to assure better consistency ever since.

Unlike a lot of the other highly-rated racehorses, Santini became a favourable option after only a handful of races, picking up a record of four wins and a third from five race meetings between the start of 2017 and the end of 2018. It’s likely that Santini will show even more quality over future races, with help from Nicky Henderson and his advanced facilities at Seven Barrows.

Santini Races

Confusion around who would be the best fit for Santini as the bay gelding’s trainer wasn’t enough to see him fall short in his opening race, finishing first in the Maiden Conditions at Didmarton with a 3/1 starting price. Going into the Ladbrokes Novices’ Hurdle at Newbury, Santini was narrowly priced as the favourite, where he went on to win the race comfortably. He then took on his first entry at Cheltenham Festival, winning the Ballymore Classic Novices’ Hurdle and finishing at a respectable third in The Spa Novices’ Hurdle.

A month on from his first Cheltenham Festival entry, Santini showed his quality at Aintree Racecourse, winning the Doom Bar Sefton Novices’ Hurdle. 2018 was finished off by a run in the Ladbrokes John Francome Novices’ Chase at Newbury, where Santini won with an 11/8 starting price.

Santini Cheltenham

Every professional horse trainer aspires for success at Cheltenham Festival, and Nicky Henderson is one man who’s accustomed to more than his fair share. Santini has already stated his claim at Cheltenham, winning the Ballymore Classic Novices’ Hurdle and finishing third in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle, all within his first entry in 2018.
