Technically still the youngest National Hunt course in the UK, Taunton Racecourse first opened in 1927 and to this day remains a popular destination for locals and horse racing fans alike. It was also the youngest UK racecourse in its own right until Great Leighs - which is now Chelmsford City Racecourse - opened back in 2008.
Taunton Racecourse is situated in Orchard Portman in Somerset and lies two miles south of its namesake country town. It’s also close to the residence of established champion trainer, Paul Nicholls, whose novices regularly feature at the racecourse.
As it is a jump track it hosts around 15 fixtures each year and these feature across the winter jump season. However, much like Taunton itself, the venue isn’t as big as other similarly popular racecourses and its fixtures tend to sell out fairly quickly. Those that are lucky enough to get to the racing at Taunton are able make the most of its top facilities and race day experiences.
